From New York’s Central Park and Brooklyn to Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat…
From not receiving any support and being discouraged from making this film in New York, to producing the film independently and returning to present it to the New York audience…

It was a dream come true to present my film at the festival where my two worlds collide!

Exactly two years ago, two film students poured their hearts into making this film and producing it in New York entirely independently and on their own. This film was a testament to our passion and love for filmmaking; and a personal story I wanted to tell at the time. The city plays an important character in the film and it would not have been possible to make it anywhere else. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported us and believed in us and the project when it was most needed.

Although our NYC premiere took place in October last year, this festival and screening were particularly special to me.

It was an honour to be part of the 20th edition of BHFF and be selected among such an inspiring group of filmmakers and 14 films in the official selection!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone at the BHFF for providing a platform for young filmmakers to promote their works!

Big thank you to the coolest professor at NYU, my actress in the film and my dear friend, Grace Kiley. Thank you to my producers, Vid and Ana! Thank you to my entire crew and cast in New York and Abu Dhabi! And thank you to our mentor, Wendy Bednarz, for always believing in us!

"Ocean Without a Floor" was selected for the competition program at the New York Shorts International Film Festival!

Ocean Without a Floor will have its North American Premiere on October 19 as part of the official competition program at the 2023 New York Shorts International Film Festival.

“Ocean Without a Floor” is returning home!

The film was selected for the competition program at the New York Shorts International Film Festival, the largest short film festival on the East Coast.
The screening will take place on October 19, at 4 PM, at the Cinema Village Theater.

I am proud that the North American premiere will take place in one of the oldest continuously operated art cinemas in New York City. The history of this cinema was also told in the film “The Projectionist” by Abel Ferrara.

My producer, Vid Milaković, and I shot the principal photography of the film completely independently when we were studying in New York. Despite the prospect of two foreign students producing a film in New York completely on their own- with the help of our supervising producer, Ana Milaković, we overcame all obstacles and made this film purely out of love for filmmaking, but also with the aim to tell an important story about Albertine, dementia and the meaning of personal memories. The year-long process of making this film, which included shooting part of it in Abu Dhabi, was a testament to our love and passion for filmmaking.

We hope the New York audience will enjoy watching the film as much as we loved making it!

"Ocean Without a Floor" Premieres at the 29th international Sarajevo Film Festival!

Ocean Without a Floor had its World Premiere on August 18 as part of the official selection at the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival.

It was a pleasure to have a conversation for the Screen Daily with film critic Geoffrey Macnab. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity that my producer, leading actress, and I got to discuss the independent production of the film in New York. We reflected on our collaboration, how our passion for filmmaking has evolved, our next steps, and what the screening in Sarajevo meant to us. You can find the link here:

SYNOPSIS:
Albertine, a retired novelist with dementia, reconnects with her younger self by remembering the memories of both happiness and loss. Her granddaughter reads from Albertine’s old journal with the hope of helping Albertine retrieve a lost memory of an important person from her past, evoking the person her grandmother used to be. As memories continue to resurface, Albertine tries to make sense of the past she relives. Faced with a choice between accepting or suppressing part of her past, the decision she ultimately makes will change the way she sees herself.
